Learning Through Play

Through play, children learn to interact with others, develop language skills, recognize and solve problems and discover their potential. Play helps children make sense of and find their place in the world. Many studies demonstrate that unstructured playtime, which is active and full of imagination, fosters healthy development across a broad spectrum of critical areas including physical, intellectual, social and emotional wellbeing.

The benefits of play are far-reaching. In addition to enabling children to fully enjoy the present moment, it empowers them to work in groups, share, negotiate, resolve conflicts and practice self-regulation of emotions and behavior. It fosters empathy in children, which is the cornerstone of creativity and community. Moreover, research indicates that a lack of free playtime actually slows children’s cognitive and emotional development.
